Core objective:
Improve the nutritional status, enhance the tolerance to treatment, and reduce cachexia.
Stage-based interventions:
1) During chemotherapy/radiotherapy:
High-protein and high-calorie diet: 1.2-2.0 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Increase the intake of whey protein powder and nut butter.
2) Relieve side effects:
Oral ulcers: Consume room-temperature liquid food (such as yogurt, pureed fruits and vegetables).
Nausea and vomiting: Drink ginger tea and eat dry foods (such as soda crackers).
3) During the rehabilitation period:
Antioxidant diet: Lycopene (cooked tomatoes) and flavonoids (blueberries) can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells.
Intestinal repair: Probiotics (Lactobacillus rhamnosus) + prebiotics (inulin).
Special needs--Immune support:
Arginine (seafood) and nucleotides (mushrooms) can enhance immune function.
Vitamin D should be ≥ 50 nmol/L (to reduce the risk of recurrence).
If the BMI is less than 18.5, oral nutritional supplements (ONS) are required to provide 400-600 kcal per day.
